The idea behind it
Why not do something very extraordinary?
Why not swim 10 kilometers across a unique lake embedded in the scenic surroundings of Hallstatt’s World Cultural Heritage Site?
Lake Hallstatt ( deepest spot 125 m; surface area 8,55 square kilometers ) is outstanding among the numerous lakes of the so-called Salzkammergut, which is an area of splendid natural beauty in the very heart of Austria. The lake is surrounded by picturesque mountains so that the temperature of its water hardly ever reaches more than 21 degrees C in summer.
The first International Lake Hallstatt Swimming Marathon took place on July 30, 2011.
The Lake Hallstatt Swimming Marathon is an event for single swimmers as well as for relay teams of four swimmers.
Alpen Open Watercup
In addition to the Austrian Open Water Cup six swimming events in Bavaria and Austria have joined and created a new series, the so-called Alpen Open Watercup.
All the swimming events of this cup are maximally only 150 km apart so that you can easily collect points for the overall cup-rating within one and the same region.
